There's many versions of this old myth - in some she's victorious, in others they make peace etc. I did later  find out that she wasn't associated with Venus - but I wrote that originally so I left it in the story, as it was the first I wrote of her, twenty years ago.

Hymn to the Goddess of Heaven

She is the ascension of the morningstar,
and that which descends at twilight,
her name is scratched into this mountain,
it is scratched with blood: Inanna,
Ah! Inanna! Whore of Babylon,
   Goddess of Heaven!
She carries the splendour of her nakedness
   with grace and dignity,
   like a highpriestess
knealing before the altar of a stranger,
   sacrificing herself.

Her name is a hymn which echoes against the clouds,
   and beneath the dark earth,
   like a lotus which unfolds
to turn its sacred petals inside itself.
The seven lions tears and hisses in their chains,
when her hands touches the dark moon.
   and trembling helds it forth,
as she raises her sword to battle and conquer
   the deepest within herself.

The blood runs like tears on the naked breast,
   the wounds are steep,
her pulse is beating and hitting as obsessed,
a star in heaven changes its course, Venus,
has cast its shadow on her face,
but the fight is hopeless and lost -
No force can crush a mountain
which is a part of themselves
